Spanish dark folk artist Antinoë released The Fold via Dark Essence Records in 2025, her first full-length album of original material. The one-woman project of Madrid-based pianist and vocalist Teresa Marraco fuses neoclassical folk, melancholic pop, and rock influences into a minimalist, piano-centered sound.
Antinoë emerged in 2021 with a focus on intimate, piano-led compositions combined with Marraco’s ethereal, multifaceted voice. Her background in extreme music includes collaborations with Coldborn, Elffor, Balmog, and Empty, as well as recording piano and keyboard parts for Dimmu Borgir’s live performance of “Det Nye Riket” at the Beyond the Gates festival. Her 2023 debut, Whispers from the Dark Past, reimagined and improved 1990s Norwegian black metal classics in an acoustic, neoclassical style and drew critical attention for its genre-crossing approach.
The new album The Fold presents a conceptual narrative centered on grief, mortality, and existential reflection. The record follows a journey of “folding inward” through different stages of loss, while exploring themes such as acceptance of death and the integration of chaos into one’s identity.
