Andvake presents a fog-drenched rural scene with a small weathered shed in muted purples and browns at the center. Bare trees rise around it.

Stefano Boggiani’s Andvake Explores Contrast and Sleepless Jazz

Stefano Boggiani – Andvake (Losen Records, 2025)

Stefano Boggiani presents Andvake, a project titled after an old Norwegian word of Norse origin with multiple meanings. The term can be translated as “insomnia,” while also referring to a heightened state of wakefulness marked by intense attention and vigilance.

The album centers on the idea of contrast; gesture and atmosphere, sparse and dense writing, order and chaos. It is all built into finely crafted contemporary jazz compositions with elegant guitars, bass and trumpet designed to leave room for creative interpretation by the players. Boggiani credits Øyvind, Oskar, Erlend, and Markus for their close collaboration, noting that their involvement and musicianship played a key role in shaping the final result.

Musicians: Stefano Boggiani on guitar; Øyvind Mathisen on trumpet; Oskar Lindberget on saxophones; Erlend Olderskog Albertsen on bass, percussion; and Markus Kristiansen on drums, percussion.

All compositions by Stefano Boggiani.
