Time Horizon is back with a new album, The Power of Three. The new album was released January 19, 2022, on Melodic Revolution Records.
Time Horizon is made up of: David Bradley Mau, on lead vocals and supporting keys; Ralph Otteson, on keyboards, piano, Hammond organ, and support vocals; Bruce Gaetke, on drums and support vocals, and lead vocals for “Razors Edge”; Allen White, on electric fretted and fretless bass guitars; Dave Miller on electric and acoustic guitars; and Michael Gregory, on electric lead guitar and acoustic guitars.
The album art was created by my favorite artist, Ed Unitsky.
When I first started listening to the album, I said that sounds a lot like Michael Sadler, from Saga on lead vocals; and what do you know they invited Michael to sing “Living for a Better Day”. The song actually sounded a lot like some of the later albums that Saga made, so maybe he helped write the song as well. But it is one of the best tracks on the album.
Every song that feature’s Ralph Otteson’s keyboards is also a keeper. “I Hear I See” is another of the best songs on the album with a powerful message of faith. In fact, faith plays an important part throughout this album. I remembered that from their first and second albums as well.
The opening to “Steve’s Song”, is like a dreamscape, that sounds similar to the opening to 10CC’s “I’m Not in Love’. Great opening and excellent bass guitar, percussion and keys.
“Time to Wonder Why” is another great song It gets even better when Ralph’s keyboards take over half-way through the song.
“The Great Divide” has a cool Kansas-like opening, then Ralph takes over with organ and keys and it gets even better.
“Digital Us”, opens with Ralph’s spacey keyboard magic. A very good commentary on the “screens between us”.
This is a very good album to add to your collection. Full of memories of past progressive rock greats, like Saga and Kansas, along with some new riffs and wonderful keyboards sounds. If you are a fan of Time Horizon or any of the keyboard influenced bands of the 1970s like Yes or ELP, this is for you.
