French progressive rock band Oddleaf was founded in early 2020 by Carina Taurer (keyboards) and Mathieu Rossi (flute/electronic flute) after a decade of performing Early and Medieval music. They embarked on a new creative journey, crafting an original repertoire of progressive rock compositions. By 2021, they expanded their lineup to include Clément Curaudeau (drums), Olivier Orlando (bass and guitar), and Olivier Marcaud (lead vocalist). At the end of 2023, Adeline Gurtner replaced Marcaud as lead singer, bringing a stronger feminine presence to the band and enhancing its distinctive sound.
Oddleaf’s music combines a variety of influences, ranging from rock and folk to medieval and western classical music, continuing the progressive rock tradition of stylistic fusion. They cite 1970s progressive giants like King Crimson and Genesis, alongside modern influences such as The Flower Kings, Wobbler, and Steven Wilson. The band has a particular affinity for the vintage sounds of the Hammond organ and Mellotron, while also embracing modern technology, such as the electronic flute.
Their music alternates between colorful, epic, and dreamlike moments, creating contrasts between electric and acoustic sounds. Notably, Oddleaf’s compositions remain grounded in contemporary themes, with lyrics addressing urgent ecological issues. The band debuted with a few demos in 2022 and gained valuable stage experience, opening for artists like Franck Carducci.
Their debut studio album, Where Ideal and Denial Collide, was released in fall 2024.
