The fantasy-style album cover for Sykofant by Sykofant presents a surreal landscape dominated by the massive skull of a whale or similar large creature. The skeletal remains lie in a desolate, reddish-brown terrain, surrounded by blackened, charred tree trunks. The sky burns in eerie hues of red and orange.

Sykofant’s Shape-shifting Self-Titled Debut

Sykofant – Sykofant (Sykofantastic Records, 2024)

Sykofant is a progressive rock band from Oslo that that blurs the lines between prog-rock and hard rock. Sure, the band dips into tiresome riff-driven territory, but their progressive sensibilities are where they truly shine. Across their self-titled debut, they deliver a rollercoaster of intricate passages, vintage analog warmth, cinematic wonder, blues-soaked leads, and captivating acoustic interludes.

What began as a freeform creative outlet for guitarists Emil Moen and Per Semb quickly evolved into something far greater. Sykofant emerged from late-night jam sessions in a dimly lit Oslo basement to an experimental playground where song structures were meant to be dismantled and reassembled in unpredictable ways. After years of refinement, those exploratory sessions crystallized into a full-fledged 55-minute album.

Musicians: Emil Moen on guitar, vocals; Melvin Treider on drums; Per Semb on lead guitar; and Sindre Haugen on bass.
