Erik Wøllo – Gateway (Projeckt, 2025 remaster)
Erik Wøllo’s Gateway returns in a newly remastered 2CD edition for its 15th anniversary, accompanied by a bonus disc of eight previously unreleased tracks. Originally released in 2010, the album remains a fundamental release in Wøllo’s extensive catalog of deeply mesmerizing ambient and progressive electronic works.
Widely regarded for his exquisitely crafted soundscapes, Wøllo combines elegant, inventive, and beautifully crafted melodic guitar lines with spacious synthesizer sounds to construct immersive, harmonic environments. As a consequence, on Gateway, his 14th solo album, features expansive cinematic sounds as well as moments of quiet introspection, drawing influence from the stunning natural beauty of his native Norway.
The remaster involved revisiting the original stereo mixes, now enhanced through analog processing and high-resolution digital tools. The result reveals a wider dynamic range, greater clarity, and improved spatial depth without compromising the album’s atmospheric cohesion.
Wøllo contextualizes the project as both archival and creative. The bonus material spans decades, including unreleased pieces from the Gateway sessions, late-1990s compositions reanimated via MIDI data, and a handful of new recordings. Each track was reconstructed using the original hardware, preserving the style of their respective periods.
Wøllo reflected at the time of the album’s release, “There is always a meditative attitude, recollections from dreams and reality suggesting the mysterious.
