After abandoning live looping in 2018 due to unsatisfying early experiments, electronic music artist Volker Lankow returned to the practice with renewed purpose in 2023. Encouraged by musician and Loop Festival founder Leander Reininghaus, Lankow debuted a melodic ambient set using DAW and Soma Cosmos at Germany’s 5th Live Looping Festival. The experience, coupled with support from fellow artists, reignited his interest in loop-based composition.
Into the Loop 2, released July 27, 2025, continues that journey with two immersive tracks that reflect Lankow’s growing engagement with looping not only as a technique, but as a musical philosophy. Shorter than its predecessor, the album explores the ethics of ambient minimalism:
- Time as Texture – Looping suspends linearity, emphasizing subtle shifts and meditative stillness.
- Repetition as Meaning – Recurring motifs deepen perception and turn music into an evolving landscape.
- Environment over Ego – Inspired by Brian Eno’s ambient ideals, the music supports focus and reflection without demanding attention.
- Simplicity as Depth – Minimal structures invite presence, where silence holds weight and restraint reveals detail.
Lankow treats technology not as a tool but as a creative partner, allowing the process to shape the outcome. Both tracks were performed, recorded, and produced live without overdubs.
