Composer Aki Yli-Salomäki and poet Auli Särkiö present Hyväksyminen (Acceptance), a work for mixed choir, piano, and electronics. The recording comes from a live performance by Somnium Ensemble at Helsinki Ritarihuone (House of Nobility) on March 6, 2025, conducted by Elisa Huovinen.
The artists combine art music, ambient, and spoken word to examine acceptance, of self, of others, and of personal limits. Slow-moving harmonies, expansive chorales, and soft resonance aim to create room for stillness and reflection. The choir remains central, supported by piano, synthesizers, and spoken passages, with words and sound interlocking to suggest an orchestral scale at key moments.
Yli-Salomäki and Särkiö frame acceptance as a long-term challenge rather than a self-help slogan. The collaboration continues their ongoing inquiry into the meeting point of language and sound, philosophy and lived experience.
