Bill Frisell and Skúli Sverrisson Reunite for Duo Album ‘For All Your Flowers’

Skúli Sverrisson with Bill Frisell – For All Your Flowers (Newvelle Records, 2026)

For All Your Flowers (NV040), the latest entry in its Newvelle Ten series, was released just a few days ago, on August 1, 2026. The delightful, masterfully-crafted, virtuosic, laid back and timeless album brings forward a new chapter in the remarkable ongoing collaboration between Icelandic bassist and composer Skúli Sverrisson and guitarist Bill Frisell.

Recorded over two days in June 2025 at EastSide Sound, the project follows the pair’s 2018 release Strata, also on Newvelle. That album introduced a creative partnership that Frisell described at the time as an experience built on trust and openness, noting that it felt like “the start of something.”

For All Your Flowers features exquisite 10 tracks. Sverrisson wrote nine of the compositions, while Frisell contributed “Baby.” The album opens with “Thank You for Taking Me There and Back” and concludes with the title track. The entire collection focuses on the duo’s dazzling, masterful and inventive interplay between bass and guitar drifts, whispers, and sings.

As you would expect, the recording highlights the distinct approaches of both musicians. Sverrisson’s bass provides the foundation of the music, while Frisell’s tranquil guitar lines move freely and elegantly through the pieces. Together, they craft a dynamic conversation throughout For All Your Flowers.

The sessions were recorded by Marc Urselli and mastered by Matthew Lutthans. Production came from Elan Mehler and JC Morisseau.

The artwork for the release was created by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson.
