Progressive rock composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Alan Reed will retire from live performance after a farewell tour in September 2026.
Alan Reed and the Daughters of Expediency will play their final concert at G2 at The Garage in Glasgow on Friday, Sept. 4. The hometown show will conclude the four-date U.K. run titled The Last Dance Tour.
Reed said his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis and the stress associated with concert planning influenced his decision. “I don’t know beyond the next six months how I’m going to be,” Reed said. “I’d rather go out on a high.”
Consequently, Reed has canceled a planned Sept. 5 appearance in Veruno, Italy. He cited the financial and logistical demands of arranging the concert as a one-off event.
The Last Dance Tour will visit the following cities:
Sept. 1: The 1865, Southampton
Sept. 2: 229, London
Sept. 3: West Street Live, Sheffield
Sept. 4: G2 at The Garage, Glasgow
Tickets are available online and through the venues.
The concerts will feature material from Reed’s remarkable solo career as well as songs associated with his former bands Abel Ganz and Pallas.
Later in September, Reed will join former colleagues for a canal walk from Bowling, west of Glasgow, to Leith in Edinburgh. A previous walk along the West Highland Way raised more than £7,000.
Reed’s solo discography includes First in a Field of One (2012); Live in Liverpool (2013); Honey On The Razor’s Edge (2017); Live: From the Razor’s Edge, with The Daughters of Expediency (2018). He also plans to release his new album, Grey Sky Thinking, later in 2026.
