One of the most popular progressive rock bands of all time, Pink Floyd, has revealed details about its upcoming new album titled The Endless River. The album’s artwork appeared on buildings in ten international cities, including an eight-meter lit installation on London’s Southbank.
The Endless River will be released on Parlophone/Warner Music on November 10th and is produced by David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson. The lineup includes David Gilmour on guitar, Nick Mason on keyboards and the late Rick Wright on keyboards. Former bassist Roger Waters is not involved in the project.
“The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions,” said David Gilmour. “We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album. Over the last year we’ve added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album. With Rick gone and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire.”
Nick Mason commented: “The Endless River is a tribute to Rick. I think this record is a good way of recognizing a lot of what he does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was.”
The Endless River is primarily an instrumental album across ‘four sides’ with one song, ‘Louder Than Words’, with new lyrics by novelist Polly Samson.
The album will be available in various formats, including a standard CD with a hard cover bound book package and a 16-page booklet; a double vinyl set; and a deluxe version 2-disc boxed set with a 24-page booklet in hard cover, including previously unseen photographs from 1993 sessions, a CD and a DVD (NTSC) or Blu-Ray with ‘The Endless River’ album in 5.1 Surround sound.
Pink Floyd has been releasing 30-second extracts on video. ‘The Endless River’ is the first Pink Floyd album in 20 years.
