If surviving in the music business wasn’t hard enough during normal times, the corona virus COVID-19 has added extra hardship. Leonardo Pavkovic, owner of iconic progressive music label MoonJune Records has put out a call for support. MoonJune is offering several specials: 19 CDs FOR $100 (+ shipping and handling), 19 full download albums for $100 or a MoonJune Records yearly subscription for $100.
BandCamp, where all MoonJune Records music is available for sale, is waiving their revenue share on sales this Friday, March 20 (from Midnight to Midnight, Pacific Time), and rallying the Bandcamp family to put much needed money directly into independent music community.
Pavkovic explained the dire situation: “As many of you already know, besides MoonJune Records, I also run an independent artist booking and management agency: MoonJune Music (Bookings & Management). Both companies are under one umbrella – MoonJune, and the company is run by myself, alone. I do not have bosses; neither do I have employees.
MoonJune Music is my main business; MoonJune Records barely pays its own expenses on a good month. Indeed, the income I derive from MoonJune Music is what allows MoonJune Records to continue as a functional business entity.
With the recent development and spread of the Corona Virus now having reached ‘worldwide pandemic’ proportions, MoonJune Music has been profoundly impacted. Numerous shows – and entire tours – have been cancelled; some of them, suddenly: without warning, after numerous travel and tour-related expenses had already been dispersed, and for which no subsequent payouts or paybacks / refunds could be realized.
Loss of cash flow and income is not hitting only my company, but most of the artists on my booking roster, also, Without these bookings, I am unable to subsidize my indie record label.
Therefore, I am asking You for a little support. Need to generate some cash flow, to make possible to release several albums still on hold, and to produce more new albums, specially for several musicians who are in difficulties. I am doing OK, but many of my friends are not doing OK. Anything helps.”
MoonJune-related cancellations and postponements have affected ther followiung artists: Stick Men, Gong with Steve Hillage, Le Orme, Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin, Dwiki Dharmawan World Peace Band, Markus Reuter Truce, Soft Machine, Nektar, British drummer and keyboardist Gary Husband, Levin Brothers, Beledo.
