Stratus Luna’s Promising Prelude

Gustavo Santhiago – Animam (Gustavo Santhiago, 2015)

In 2019, a Brazilian progressive rock group attracted international attention. The band featured very young musicians, including teenagers and released a critically acclaimed album titled Stratus Luna (Music Magick /Moonjune, 2019).

Here, we are reviewing Animam, the debut album of Gustavo Santhiago, Stratus Luna’s keyboard player. He made this album five years earlier, in 2015, when he was a teenager.

Animam highlights Gustavo’s keyboard work. It’s finely crafted instrumental symphonic progressive rock featuring various electronic keyboards, primarily synths, accompanied by guitars, bass and drums. Influences range from Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman to Jürgen Fritz (Triumvirat).

You could tell that the kid had talent and, thankfully, he’s continued his marvelous work with his current band.

The lineup included Gustavo Santhiago on keyboards, flute and bass; Gabriel Costa on drums; Giovanni Lenti on drums; Ilan Milner on bass; Felipe Salvego on guitars; and Ricardo Santhiago on guitars and electric sitar.
