Tansy – Full Bloom (802717 Records DK2 , 2020)
Full Bloom is the debut album from a New Orleans-based duo called Tansy. The group performs a delightful mix of contemporary jazz, soul, pop and funk.
The duo’s sound revolved around the outstanding vocalist Alicia McKenna and keyboardist Will Feinberg. McKenna is a superb vocalist with a multifaceted sound that incorporates dream pop, jazz stylings, and masterfully-crafted overdubs. At times, Alicia McKenna’s vocals relates to Norah Jones’ sound.
Will Feinberg along with some of the finest musicians in the New Orleans music scene deliver exquisite instrumental creations.
The highlights include the captivating, dreamy opening song, “New Day”; the wonderful a cappella composition “Tansy Interlude”; the infectious funk jazz and soul song “Dreaming” that features an excellent guitar solo by Max Bronstein; the seductive soul groove of “Be With You”; the percussion work on “Goodnight interlude”; and the remarkable final track, “Full Bloom,” where Alicia McKenna performs some of the finest vocal work in the form of wordless vocals accompanied by progressive fusion.
Tansy recruited some of the finest musicians in the New Orleans music scene. The lineup on the album includes Alicia McKenna on vocals and percussion; Will Feinberg on piano, Rhodes, organ and percussion; Quinn Sternberg on bass; Peter Varnado on drums; Sam Taylor on tenor saxophone; Steve Lands on trumpet ; and Jake Bass on percussion.
