Fusion guitar pioneer John McLaughlin has released an exclusive video to raise awareness and funds for COVID relief in India, asking all to donate to Project Hope today. The musical piece selected is Thelonious Monk’s Straight No Chaser.
John McLaughlin has frequently expressed the musical and spiritual debt that he owes to the people and nation of India. Whether explicit (the unprecedented east/west hybrid of his beloved Shakti ensemble) or implicit (the groundbreaking rhythmic structures he transmitted via the Mahavishnu Orchestra), India has deeply influenced McLaughlin’s life and music.
The lineup includes John McLaughlin on guitar; Roger Rossignol on piano; Jean Michel ‘Kiki’ Aublette on bass; and Nicolas Viccaro on drums.
