Magenta – Angels And Damned (Tigermoth Records, 2021)

Welsh progressive rock band Magenta has released a fantastic double album titled Angels And Damned. The band plays masterful symphonic progressive rock inspired by Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Big Big Train, Steve Hackett, chamber music and other styles.

The set was recorded in 2019 show at Arlington Arts Centre in Newbury, England as part of the celebration of Magenta’s 20th anniversary. The album is available in several formats, including DVD and DVD.

Angels And Damned features fan favorites such as “The White Witch”, “Red”, “Gluttony” and a large part of the 2006 album Home. Throughout the album, the listener is treated to exquisite vocals; stellar, multifaceted guitar work; and masterful keyboards that range from cathedral organ to piano and synths.

The band included lead vocalist Christina Booth; Rob Reed on keyboards and backing vocals; and Chris Fry on acoustic and electric guitars and backing vocals.

Guests: Dave Longdon (Big Big Train) on vocals and flute; Pete Jones (Tiger Moth Tales/Camel) on guitar, saxophone, penny whistle, and backing vocals; Dan Nelson on bass; Jonathan ‘Jiffy’ Griffiths on drums and percussion; Simon Brittlebank on timpani, glockenspiel, gong, congas, tubular bells; Karla Powell on oboe; and Katie Axelsen on flute.
