cover of the album End Of Innocence by former Yes keyboard player Tony Kaye

Remarkable Symphonic Work from Tony Kaye

Tony Kaye – End Of Innocence (Spirit Of Unicorn Music, 2021)

On “End Of Innocence”, former Yes keyboard player Tony Kaye provides a musical portrait of events that happened 20 years during September 11 and how the world changed since then.

“End Of Innocence” is an masterfully-crafted, ambitious symphonic keyboard work designed as a set of cinematic pieces that reflect the different moods and feelings generated after experiencing 9/11 and the wars that consequently followed.

Throughout the album, Kaye uses his superb electric organ player skill along with a wide range of electronic keyboard sounds generated by synths and samplers and electronic percussion that interweave orchestral sounds and sampled instruments plus spoken word recordings from first responders and other sources. Although most of the album is instrumental, vocalist Dani Torchia appears on two songs.

This recording has little connection to the familiar Yes sound. Instead it is a remarkable mini-symphony dedicated to traumatic events that still have consequences today.

The album cover is by Roger Dean, the great illustrator that has worked with Yes for many years.
