Transfixing Space Rock and Electronics from Breidablik

Breidablik – Alduorka (Apollon Records Prog, 2022)

Norwegian band Breidablik is set to release “Alduorka”, its fifth album, on February 11, 2022. The band plays a mesmerizing instrumental mix of progressive space rock, trancy Berlin School-style sequencer based music and ambient atmospheres. Unlike other purely electronic bands, Breidablik uses a mix of synths, guitar, flute, and drums. The title of the album is a Faroese word that is translated as wave energy.

Breidablik was formed in Bergen, which is the progressive music capital of Norway, in 2012. The present line-up includes Morten Birkeland Nielsen on synthesizers, guitars; Håkon Oftung (Jordsjø, Elds Mark, Tusmørke) on guitar; and Trond Gjellum (Panzerpappa, Suburban Savages, Electrond, and Mythopoeic Mind) on drums. Long time Breidablik friend, V’ganðr (Helheim, Taake, ex- Aeternus, and many more) makes a guest appearance on bass.

Breidablik’s previous recordings include “Vinter” (2017), “Penumbra” (2017), “Nhoohr” (2019), and “Omicron” (2020).
