Francesco Medda and Mauro Palmas – Meigama (Altrove, 2021)

Francesco Medda and Mauro Palmas, two Italian artists representing diverse traditions join forces on “Meigama”.  Francesco Medda, also known as known as Arrogalla, provides fascinating electronic beats, mesmerizing atmospheres, and sound effects. Meanwhile, Mauro Palmas plays evocative Sardinian and Mediterranean melodies on acoustic string instruments from the Italian folk tradition such as the cantabile lute, mandola and mandoloncello. This is the first album by Mauro Palmas e Francesco Medda as a duo.

On Meigama, Francesco Medda incorporates a wide range of sound recordings, including religious processions, drones, dub atmospheres, hip-hop beats, bass sounds taken from an old Jamaican vinyl album, Saharawi and Iberian voices, sounds of old tape recordings, starlings, night sounds of water, crickets and cattle, etc.

Meigama in Sardinian means a temporal dimension, a mood, and the colors of afternoons in a certain part of the year.
