Area was an international progressive rock and fusion band based in Italy with a political and social advocacy spirit. The group switched back and forth between progressive rock and jazz-rock fusion.

In the 1980s, a spinoff jazz band called Area II released two albums.
The main Area lineup included Demetrio Stratos on vocals, organ, percussion; Paolo Tofani on guitar, synthesizer; Victor Busnello on saxophone; Patrizio Fariselli on keyboards; Patrick Djivas on bass; and Giulio Capiozzo on drums, percussion).
