Verbal Delirium - Conundrum

Verbal Delirium “Conundrum” Interview

PRC: Jargon, from Verbal Delirium. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to discuss your latest album, Conundrum, with us.

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “Thank you! It’s our pleasure talking with you too”.

PRC: Please describe how the band began, emerged and evolved.

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “I started a music project back in 1999, named Afterglow. After many line-up changes and experiments in sound, we self-released a demo album in 2006 (which later became our 3rd official release) “The Imprisoned Words Of Fear” and at that time we changed the name of the band to Verbal Delirium. Our first official release was “So Close & Yet So Far Away” in 2010 followed by “From The Small Hours Of Weakness” in 2013 and the third release we previously mentioned, in 2016. Our new album “Conundrum” was released in November 2022. We’ve been through many line-up changes throughout all these years and finally got a stable one, as it seems so for the last 5 years. We are really happy that we are back and stronger than ever! And of course there is more to come in the near future!

PRC: We absolutely look forward to it!

PRC: Please tell us about your influences. Who are your favorite bands?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “Literally everything! We like almost all kinds of music from classical music , 60s pop rock music, 70s and 80s to 90s, electronica and Metal music. Bands and artists that we love and influenced our sound are Genesis, King Crimson, The Beatles, Radiohead, IAMX , Nevermore, Sergei Prokofiev, Pain Of Salvation and many, many, more.”

PRC: Will you tour Conundrum?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “Unfortunately, no. We have the album live presentation in Athens on Sunday 12/02 but other than that, nothing scheduled so far. Of course, We’d love too, but we don’t have any offers for touring or playing at any festival this year… We’ll try our best to schedule something, but it’s not entirely up to us.”

PRC: If you had to choose from two or three favorite songs off Conundrum, that you would like to discuss the origins or inspiration for, what would they be?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “That’s a tough one… Let’s say “The Watcher”, “The Children Of Water” and “Intruders” (for now , If you ask me tomorrow maybe I’ll answer something else xDDD) and that’s the strong point of the new album. It’s so versatile. Depending on your mood, you can choose any of the songs”

PRC: Will there be any solo or new projects evolving from the release of this new album?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “Yes. I am working on my second solo album these days and also Stratos is recording the Residuos Mentales new album, so there will be 2 new releases, hopefully this year. The second Jargon solo album and the second Residuos Mentales album.”

PRC: We are looking forward to them!

PRC: If you had all the money in the world and could write a concept album, for which concept or subject, would you most enjoy writing music?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “Never thought about it, to be honest. I don’t think money is a barrier. I mean , you can write for whatever concept you like anyway. I’d say I am most interested in human nature and psychology, but I’ve not something specific in mind, yet.”

PRC: If you could collaborate with any band or artist, who would you choose?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, Chris Corner of IAMX and Ihsahn.”

PRC: Which albums would you choose as your favorites of all time?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “That’s something really difficult to answer. There are so many albums that I love. I can definitely tell you the one and only. My favorite album of all time is Genesis’ – Nursery Cryme.

PRC: That is one of my favorites, as well!

PRC: What is your favorite song of all time?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “I think now you can guess which one. “The Musical Box” – Genesis!”

PRC: Yeah, me too. Another favorite.

PRC: We love Conundrum, but are you currently working on the next album?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “We will start working on the next album by next month. For now, we are planning to release this year an EP with 2 songs that were left out from “Conundrum”.

PRC: When will your next album be released?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “If all goes as planned , it will be released in 2024. The original idea for “Conundrum” was to be released it as a double album. After a lot of discussions, we agreed to split this into 2 separate releases, so we worked on and recorded only the first album. Now it’s time to start working on the second one. The name of the new album will be “In Afterglow”.

PRC: Is there anything else that you would like to mention or talk about that my questions did not cover?

Jargon – Verbal Delirium: “Thank you for this wonderful conversation. Hope you all enjoyed the new album. Don’t forget to follow us on social media platforms, so you will be updated with news. There will definitely be some exciting news and also new music videos really soon!!”
