After a hiatus of over 30 years, Utopia, led by Todd Rundgren, took the stage once again at the Chicago Theatre with a mission to provide fans with an unforgettable concert experience. The band, renowned for its progressive rock and pop sound and innovative techniques, consisted of Todd Rundgren, Kasim Sulton, Willie Wilcox, and Gil Assayas.

Todd Rundgren has explored various rock subgenres, and that is what you will find on this set. Disc 1 of “Live At The Chicago Theatre” presents the captivating progressive rock side, highlighting his engaging American form of high energy progressive rock, incorporating classic rock and blues elements along with Rundgren’s soulful vocals.

Disc 2 is primarily centered on the pop and pop-rock side of Rundgren. However, it includes an excellent version of the great song, which features outstanding vocal work, which is one of Rundgren’s specialties.

Hailing from Philadelphia, Todd Rundgren picked up the guitar as a teenager and went on to front the psychedelic group Nazz in the 60s. However, in 1969, he left the band to launch a successful solo career, starting with his album “Runt.” But it was the 1972 release of “Something/Anything?” that solidified Todd’s place in music history as a multitalented artist, producer, and performer, leading the press to crown him as “Rock’s New Wunderkind.” He went on to produce more iconic albums like “A Wizard, A True Star” and “The Hermit of Mink Hollow” and hits such as “I Saw The Light,” “Hello It’s Me,” “Can We Still Be Friends,” and “Bang The Drum.”

Throughout his career, Todd Rundgren has explored a diverse range of musical styles both as a solo artist and as a member of Utopia. He is known for his unique and unconventional music, elaborate stage outfits, and experiments in interactive entertainment. He also created groundbreaking music videos, embraced new multimedia technologies, and was an early advocate for computer technology in the music industry.
