The John Irvine Band, a thrilling jazz-rock project with a symphonic progressive rock edge from Edinburgh, has released an excellent concept album titled “Scanning the Dark Horizon.” Precisely, John Irvine is a skilled and creative multi-instrumentalist who builds masterfully constructed, high energy instrumental fusion of an epic nature using pure electric guitar goodness, dazzling keyboards, and solid, creative drumming.
The recording is based on a science fiction story about a world in which opposing factions fight for dominance after a warming event, and humans are forced to live at higher altitudes to survive.
The band’s leader, John Irvine, composed and arranged all the music on the album, which features guitars, keyboards, bass, and drums. The story behind the album follows the journey of the characters as they desperately seek to escape their dying planet and find a new home, all while facing threats from hostile weather conditions and hostile forces.
