Hawkwind – The Future Never Waits (Cherry Red Records, 2023)

Hawkwind have a brand-new studio album called “The Future Never Waits” that follows their critically acclaimed 2021 album “Somnia” and 2022 double live album “We Are Looking In On You.” The band’s 35th studio album is an outstanding progression to their varied and celebrated catalog.

Opening track ‘The Future Never Waits’ delivers a forward-looking ten minute trancy instrumental piece, one of the best pieces on the album. Other highlights include the dreamy ‘Aldous Huxley’; another lengthy progressive rock piece titled ‘They Are So Easily Distracted’ that builds up very nicely; the captivating psychedelic composition ‘USB1″; and the fantastic trippy creation ‘Outside of Time.’

The lineup includes Dave Brock on vocals, lead guitar, keyboards, synthesizers; Richard Chadwick on drums; Magnus Martin on guitar, keyboards, vocals; Doug McKinnon on bass; and Tim ‘Thighpaulsandra’ Lewis on keyboards, synthesizers.
