Kait Dunton – Keyboards (R&I, 2023)
This delightful and dazzling contemporary jazz keyboard album documents the music composed and recorded by Kait Dunton during 2022 when her Instagram following significantly grew. She focused on the mesmerizing Fender Rhodes electric piano and experimented with effects pedals. Her musical influences included artists like Herbie Hancock, Steely Dan, and Stevie Wonder.
Kait posted regular 90-second clips of groovy vintage-inspired compositions on Instagram. With support from collaborators Jake Reed and Sean Hurley, she decided to record a full album. Kait’s music skillfully combines various genres beyond jazz, such as funk, soul, blues, fusion and Keyboards highlights the sounds of the 1970s with a focus on grooves and rhythmic interplay.
Despite an initial reluctance, she embraced music as her true calling, and her journey as a professional artist spans two decades. Kait is a highly talented keyboardist, composer, and songwriter with an engaged and devoted fanbase. She has also contributed to various film and TV projects. Kait resides in South Pasadena (California, USA) with her husband and daughter, recording and playing music in their home studio filled with vintage keyboards and other instruments.
