The Who Team Up with Orchestra for Live At Eden Project 2023

The Who — Live at Eden Project 2023 (earMUSIC, 2026)

The Who have a new album recorded with a symphony orchestra titled Live At Eden Project 2023 It captures the band’s performance at Cornwall’s Eden Project on July 25, 2023.

Since the 1960s, The Who have released highly influential, memorable rock albums such as My Generation, Tommy, and Who’s Next. Their regular albums and rock operas influenced hard rock, heavy rock, punk, and even progressive rock acts (specially their concept albums). Indeed, they earned a reputation as one of rock’s most powerful live acts.

Although the deaths of drummer Keith Moon in 1978 and bassist John Entwistle in 2002 were significant turning points, founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend have continued to perform under The Who banner. As a result, classics such as “Baba O’Riley” and “Pinball Wizard” remain fixtures of the band’s live shows.

My favorite is the instrumental “Overture,” from Tommy. This the closest they got to progressive rock.

The Eden Project concert took place at one of the UK’s most distinctive outdoor venues, known for its large biomes and environmental focus. For the performance, The Who appeared alongside the Heart of England Philharmonic Orchestra. As a result the listeners are treated to lush, masterful orchestral arrangements of material from the band’s extensive catalog.

The set featured many of the group’s best-known songs as well as deeper selections for longtime fans. Live At Eden Project 2023 is available in several formats, including a 2CD Digipak, a limited 3LP gatefold edition pressed on recycled vinyl and packaged without plastic shrink wrap, a standard 3LP gatefold release, and digital editions.
