Volker Lankow Channels Extreme Heat on Thermal Drift

Volker Lankow – Thermal Drift (self-release, 2026)

Volker Lankow finds beauty in stillness on Thermal Drift. Lankow recorded Thermal Drift during the hottest period of the year, when stagnant air and relentless oppressive summer temperatures defined the sessions.

The ambient electronic album centers on slow drones and synth tones that bend and blur like heat above pavement. Several tracks develop with minimal movement, while others introduce subtle pulses beneath the surface.

As a result, the record reflects both the stillness of extreme heat and the quiet effort to endure it. Lankow completed the mixing sessions at night, when cooler temperatures allowed for greater focus.
