Lunar & The Deception have released “The Great Bison,” a six-minute ceremonial, boundless composition about loss, mourning, and the crossing of the great divide.
London band Lunar & the Deception brings alternative rock, indie rock, darkwave, dream pop, gothic music and neo-psychedelia into a theatrical framework led by vocalist and lyricist Britt Xyra Dusk.
Born in South Africa and based in London, Dusk is also a professional costume designer whose work is essential to the band’s visual identity. Her background in fashion and performance contributes to a stage aesthetic centered on prophetic female sorcerers and tribal warriors, with references to figures from both history and the present.
Meanwhile, the music brings together atmospheric synthesizers with percussion, dramatic strings, guitar, and hypnotic vocals. Poetry, prophecy, and social commentary feature prominently in the group’s creative approach, particularly themes of injustice and the experiences of marginalized people. The band describes its broader purpose as one of reflection, awareness, and emotional connection.
The lineup features Britt Xyra Dusk on vocals, lyrics, stones, bones and bowls; Hedge Seel on drums and percussion; Dave Laycock on guitar and programming; and Syan 7 on bass.
