Quella Vecchia Locanda was a progressive rock band formed in 1970 in Rome, Italy. The group released two acclaimed albums, Quella vecchia locanda (1972) and Il tempo della gioia (1974).
The band played a gorgeous form of progressive rock rooted in neoclassical music and Italian folk influences, with interesting vocal work, dazzling piano performances, elegant violin, excellent guitar lines, powerful drums and bass much more.
The first lineup (1970-71) included Giorgio Giorgi on vocals, flute; Raimondo Maria Cocco on guitar, vocals, clarinet; Massimo Roselli on keyboards, vocals; Romualdo Coletta on bass; and Patrick Traina on drums, percussion.
In 1972, violinist Donald Lax joined the band. Later, in 1974, Donald Lax and Romualdo Coletta left the group. They were replaced by Claudio Filice on violin; and Massimo Giorgi on bass, vocals.
The two original albums were difficult to find, although they were later reissued on CD and other formats.
