Bushman’s Revenge – Ah, Les Vaches! (Is it Jazz? Records, 2026)
Bushman’s Revenge show their humor on their new album Ah, Les Vaches!. The title translates as “Ah, the cows,” a phrase attributed to composer Erik Satie’s final words. The record also introduces new bassist Tor Egil Kreken. He joins the group after its 2003 formation and two decades after its debut album.
According to the band, Ah, Les Vaches! moves toward a looser idea of pop, with shorter songs and simpler melodies, You’ll find a lighter emphasis on fiery rock and free jazz elements. The inventive guitar work reminds me of some of Bill Frisell’s more rock-oriented work. The album also includes a version of Stina Nordenstam’s interpretation of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” The band says the songs draw inspiration from friends, pets, and other animals, both living and gone.
Bushman’s Revenge recorded the album at Amper Tone studios in Oslo in August 2025 with engineer Bård Ingebrigtsen. Johan Lindström later added pedal steel to selected tracks.
