Steve Hackett and Steve Rothery Share ‘The Black Sea’ Video

Steve Hackett of Steve Hackett (Genesis) and Steve Rothery (Marillion) have unveiled “The Black Sea,” the first track from their album The Roaring Waves. The instrumental recording will be available on August 28, 2026, on InsideOutMusic.

The song was rolled out with a video directed by Tim Sidwell and features performances from album collaborators Riccardo Romano, who co-wrote, mixed, and contributed keyboards and bass, and drummer Leon Parr.

Rothery said “The Black Sea” serves as an introduction to the musical world created on the album and highlighted the chemistry between the two guitarists. Hackett added that the combination of guitars and keyboards helped create a sense of intrigue and adventure inspired by the sea.

The Roaring Waves has been discussed for years. It features seven instrumental compositions developed over nearly a decade. Recorded intermittently at Racket Club and the musicians’ home studios, the album emerged from an improvisational process built around shared ideas and extended jam sessions.
