Guitarists Brian Tarquin and Joe Satriani released a new motion comic video for Tyranny of Tone. The track is the title from Tarquin’s latest Heavy Friends album. Dedicated to raising awareness of the California Fire Foundation, the project highlights Southern California wildfire devastation. It also outlines the recovery efforts that follow.
The animated video depicts Tarquin and Satriani performing amid raging wildfires as firefighters battle the flames. Once the fires subside, the story shifts. Residents return to their communities, rebuild their homes, and witness the landscape gradually restored.
The video was produced by 3Dave Visuals, which previously collaborated with Tarquin and Satriani on the AI-generated “Speed of Sound” video, a 2023 Josie Music Award winner. The visual production company combines digital technology with creative storytelling and offers behind-the-scenes insights into its work through its website.
Meanwhile, Tyranny of Tone continues Tarquin’s tradition of connecting his Heavy Friends recordings with charitable causes. The album features an extensive roster of guest musicians, including guitarists Joe Satriani, Steve Hackett (Genesis), Bruce Kulick (Kiss, Grand Funk Railroad), Gus G (Ozzy Osbourne), Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Guns N’ Roses), Doug Rappoport (Edgar Winter), Gary Hoey, Carl Verheyen (Supertramp) and Hal Lindes (Dire Straits).
Additional contributors include bassist Stu Hamm (Steve Vai) and violinists Joe Deninzon (Kansas, Stratospheerius) and Karen Briggs (Peter Gabriel).
Through its wildfire narrative, the “Tyranny of Tone” video connects the album’s musical collaborations with the work of firefighters and the resilience of communities affected by natural disasters.
