Dream The Electric Sleep
Heretics (Dream The Electric Sleep, 2014)
The second album by progressive rock band Dream The Electric Sleep presents a tremendous mix of modern post rock, classic rock, and epic symphonic progressive rock. The trio from Lexington (Kentucky) uses the characteristic wall of sound of edgy shoegaze bands and adds mesmerizing atmospheres derived from the Pink Floyd School of rock as well top-notch guitar playing.
In addition to impressive instrumental skills, Dream The Electric Sleep also stands out with its outstanding vocal work that recalls Roger Waters, Sting and Anathema.
Highlights include the vibrant opening piece ’Heretics,’ the grand progressive rock epic ‘I Know where You Are’ that builds up very nicely to a climactic conclusion, and ‘How Long We Wait’ where inspired post rock meets great symphonic prog rock.
Dream The Electric Sleep was formed in winter 2009 when guitarist and vocalist Matt Page and drummer Joey Waters recruited bassist Chris Tackett, formerly of the bands Chum (Century Media) and Hyatari (Earache). The band released its debut recording titled Lost and Gone Forever in 2011. The lineup on Heretics includes Matt Page on lead vocals, guitar; Joey Waters on drums, vocals; and Chris Tackett on bass.
Heretics is an exceptionally good band with an epic atmosphere and an effective balance of upbeat and calmer material.
