Consider the Source is a progressive rock band from New York City who cross numerous musical boundaries. The instrumental power trio combine creative progressive jazz-rock jams and occasional shredding with structured pieces and world music elements from the Middle East, South Asia, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia.

The group has released two albums that are part of a Trilogy. World War Trio (Part 1) was released in late 2014 and contains a 23+minute suite titled “Put Another Rock In That Bag.” Meanwhile, the double CD set World War Trio (Parts 2+3) was released this year.

Even though this group consists of three musicians, the musical variation and instrumentation used is very impressive. The band members recommend that the listener use headphones or high quality speakers to capture the best possible musical experience.

Disc 2 on World War Trio (Parts 2+3) features Indonesian musical influences. This is interesting because Moonjune label has been releasing fabulous jazz-rock fusion recordings by Indonesian artists in the past years. It’s great to see that this jazz-rock interaction between East and West goes both ways.

Consider The Source’s lineup includes Gabriel Marin on fretted and fretless guitars, guitar synth, dutar, dombra, baglama, saz, chattarangui, dan bau, and yayli tanbur; John Ferrara on four and five string basses, ukulele bass and banjo bass; and Jeff Mann on drums and percussion.

Consider the Source has released an extraordinary trilogy featuring tremendous virtuosity and an unexpected mix of prog rock and world music
