Seven Impale – Summit (Karisma Records, 2023)
The much-anticipated third album of the progressive rock band Seven Impale, entitled “Summit,” is set to be released on May 26, 2023, under the Karisma Records label. In “Summit,” Seven Impale presents their signature style, which intertwines dazzling jazz fusion and progressive rock with heavier elements, resulting in four powerful tracks.
Seven Impale continues to charm on “Summit” with its remarkable, engaging vocals and superb musicianship. While still maintaining the intensity of their previous albums, such as “City of the Sun” and “Contrapasso,” “Summit” also provides ample space and time for the music and lyrics to captivate and enthrall listeners.
The band members have been occupied with various pursuits, such as education, family, and other music projects, which made the wait for the album even longer. Despite their personal commitments, the band has managed to keep the group active, albeit with minimal activities.
Vocalist and guitarist Stian, for example, has earned a degree in opera singing from the Grieg Academy and has since embarked on an international career. Meanwhile, keyboardist Håkon has joined Enslaved. Nevertheless, after seven years since their previous release, “Contrapasso,” Seven Impale has finally produced their newest creation.
The album was recorded in Solslottet, Bergen, and produced, mixed, and mastered by Iver Sandøy. The lineup consists of Benjamin Mekki Widerøe on saxophone, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on drums, guitars, and vocals, Håkon Mikkelsen Vinje on keyboards and vocals, Stian Økland on guitars and vocals, and Tormod Fosso on bass.
