Eduardo Moreno’s Reappearance: Disorder/Inner Odyssey

Eduardo Moreno – Disorder/Inner Odyssey (self-release, 2023)

Spanish multi-instrumentalist Eduardo Moreno has unexpectedly re-emerged after nearly three decades, presenting a work that immerses us in his distinct world like never before. “Disorder/Inner Odyssey” encompasses material created and recorded between 1995 and 2022. Eduardo Moreno once again assumes responsibility for nearly all aspects, including guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, backing vocals, programming, and production. He is joined by the vocal talents of Daniel Campañá and Jessica Brizio, as well as the saxophone contributions of Jesús Molina.

The first part of the album. “Disoreder,” includes three high energy pieces that recall the heavier work of early King Crimson, with a relentless onslaught of heavy guitar riffs. The song titles reflect the schizoid feelings expressed: ‘Bipolar Disorder,’ ‘Sisifus Syndrome’ and ‘Bipolar Disorder Part 2.’

I have to recognize that I prefer the impressive newer material, a 28-minute suite titled ‘Inner Odyssey.’ Here, Moreno flourishes, with a superb symphonic progressive rock epic with all the elements that fans love: superb musicianship, masterful arrangements and a mix of high intensity and serene moments that progress into epic proportions. The influences on ‘Inner Odyssey’ range from Yes and Camel to ELP and King Crimson.

As the title aptly suggests, this album comprises two distinct and well-defined mini-albums, each with its own identity.

Musicians: Eduardo Moreno on electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, backing vocals, and programming; Daniel Campañá on vocals and choral arrangement on “Inner Odyssey”; Jessica Brizio on vocals on “Bipolar Disorder Part II” and “The Sorceress”; Vanessa Ruiz and Jessica Brizio, backing vocals on “A Man Alone”; and Jesús Molina, saxophone on “The Mermaids Labyrinth.”
