Nite Bjuti is an improvised contemporary jazz album released in 2023 by a highly talented trio of Afro-Caribbean artists: Candice Hoyes (vocals, pedals), Val Jeanty (percussion, drums, electronics, pedals), and Mimi Jones (bass, vocals, pedals). The album features 11 tracks, all of which are completely improvised.
The trio formed in 2018 after a successful collaboration, and the artists share a powerful chemistry. They focus on sustaining creativity, Afro-Roots and improvisation, inviting listeners to connect and explore their own minds through the music.
The album draws inspiration from Haitian folklore on songs like “Night Beauty,” where a girl’s spirit seeks justice through her singing bones in the afterlife. Nite Bjuti seeks to rediscover buried Diasporic beauty and connect intimately with their audiences through their music.
