Finnish-Canadian guitarist and songwriter Tim Norrgrann, known by his solo moniker Gtarzee, has released his new six-track EP Ducks in a Row. Gtarzee amalgamates progressive rock with acoustic folk influences. The digital-only release demonstrates Gtarzee’s admirable stylistic range through reinterpretations, collaborations, and original material.

Two singles preceded the EP. ‘Vem Kan Segla Förutan Vind, while the prog-influenced “In the Wee Hours of the Morning Light” debuted at No. 1.

The EP opens with the folk-leaning “Ascension,” composed by Gtarzee’s son Max and featuring both father and son on guitar and baritone ukulele, respectively. Track two is a joyful cover of Joe Satriani’s “If I Could Fly,” a composition famously linked to Coldplay’s Viva La Vida controversy. “Destiny MMXXV” reworks a song from Gtarzee’s 2022 solo debut Nine Tracks, adds acoustic layers, rhythm guitars, a catchy beat, that and a Pink Floyd-inspired spacey guitar conclusion.

“In the Wee Hours of the Morning Light” serves as the centerpiece of the EP’s prog-rock segment, followed by “Can You Feel My Love (Again),” a re-recording of a 2019 track originally released with Gtarzee’s band Forth.

The EP closes with a new folk-rock arrangement of “Vem Kan Segla Förutan Vind,” a traditional Swedish-language folk song that reached No. 15 on Finland’s iTunes Rock chart.

In addition to his solo work, Norrgrann continues to perform with Forth, Waking Iris, and Timbrian.
