Voice of Glass – Epos

Voice of Glass is a Las Vegas, Nevada, based, metal/rock band who have released their latest EP, Epos on Symphonic Metal Rexius Records on January 16th of this year.

“The Nevada-based band have spent over two decades refining a sound that fuses gothic atmosphere, progressive ambition, metal weight, with modern hard rock. This new EP gathers that journey into a cohesive story of brokenness, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal. Built around the soaring single “The Phoenix,” Epos traces a clear emotional arc.

Voice of Glass has been active since 2002 and consists of two members – guitarist David Meek and vocalist Olya Meek. They are the co-founders of Voice of Glass, alongside former drummer/vocalist Todor Mihailov who left the band in 2006. Supporting David and Olya on Ethos are Andy-Beldy Jr. on bass and synths; Carlos Silva on drums; and David Warner on cellos and violins.

In August 2022, Voice of Glass returned to release the three track EP Hours. They have also released a full album, The End of You, in 2011, and the Making Me Real EP, in 2007.

“This World Is Broken (Remix),” opens with soft strings and drums. Olya Meek’s voice sounds so soulful and a lot like Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics. This is a fantastic choice for the EP song opener. It simply grabs you by the ears and draws you into Voice of Glass’s music. The choirs supporting Olya sounds wonderful, (but no choir is credited, so that sound is all Olya). The blazing electric guitar playing of David Meek is a standout throughout the album.

“Soteria,” opens with soft synths and electric guitar. The sound is like a wave rising and then falling. Olya Meek sings straight ahead this time as metal guitars and soft drums build an awesome soundscape surrounding her. This is another of the best songs on Ethos. Olya sings, “What can save me from this sordid disease? Only death could ever set me free. In the wake of my despair your love came to me. Perfect sacrifice if only I trust enough to believe.” Are we all willing to take that “Leap of Faith,” like Indy did in The Last Crusade? Everyone must make that choice…someday.

“Henosis,” or as the Ancient Greek’s said, “Oneness,” is a magical musical experience and the longest song on the EP. David’s electric guitar soloing lights this song aglow. A song of deep love between the two band members. Olya sings, “We are one. Even though you are away. This Henosis. Will never change. There is no one. That could take your place. What we have. Will never go away.” Such a powerful song.

“The Phoenix,” opens with grungy guitars played by David, then the drums join in. Olya sings, “As darkness creeps slowly. You face the night alone. This fate, your only road. Still, a glimmer glows. Through the darkness may try. The phoenix shall arise. And light the blackened sky. With indelibly bright light.” The choir-like support on this song is off the chart!

“The Ancient of Days,” opens with rolling electric guitar and soft drums. Olya sings, “Your shadow caresses the sky. Like a kiss from heaven. An ancient smile that never dies. A bright and an endless light. Hope for the forgotten. A guide to us for all these dark times.” This one sound so much like the music off Siena Roots’ Revelation. In fact Olya sounds so much like Zubaida Solid on the song, “Little Burden” here.

“This World is Broken (Instrumental),” is a beautiful instrumental song, full of strings and soft electric guitars with bells. A sad, but profound music fills the soundscape with that deep cello sound. What a perfect way, with those high vocal choirs to end this fantastic EP. The strings take me back to the wonder that was Edensong’s wonderful journey on Our Road to Dust. This album is magic…out of the bottle!

Voice of Glass’ Epos is a great way to introduce your ears to their music. Think of Annie Lennox – like vocals matched with metal guitar soloing that will take you back to your favorite metal albums. It is magnificent and I hope to interview the band to find out more. If you are in search of a new sound, in this new year, make Voice of Glass’ Epos your first choice. This is first rate music that must be heard! Highly recommended!

The album was recorded at Electric Shop Recording Studio. Ethos was produced entirely by Voice of Glass.
