Jane Getter Premonition — Transmogrify (7D Media, 2026)
Jane Getter Premonition’s Transmogrify is a restless album that confronts personal, political, and musical change with fierce conviction and intellectual curiosity. The result is a superb, carefully sculpted progressive rock album that displays technical virtuosity, emotion, creativity, and is also deeply human.
Getter’s writing sounds sharper and more refined here. Earlier albums sometimes leaned too hard on dense metal riffage. However, on Transmogrify, heavier passages are thankfully less frequent. That restraint gives her guitar work more room to shine through dazzling melodies, while Adam Holzman’s fabulous keyboard solos add brilliance and balance. Getter also reaffirms her strength as a vocalist, delivering the material with a soulful, engaging, dynamic style.
The songs often began in different forms, and that sense of mutation gives the album its restless feel. The title track ponders shifting desire and experience. “He’s Gone Away” probes the false promise of escape, where private ghosts refuse to stay buried. “Blinded” delivers a steely warning against blind allegiance. Then “Little Steps,” a delightful solo acoustic guitar tribute to the late Ralph Towner, closes the circle with grace and intimacy.
Jane Getter Premonition includes Jane Getter (Saturday Night Live Band, Jack McDuff) on guitars, lead vocals, bass, backing vocals; Adam Holzman (Miles Davis, Steven Wilson) on keyboards; Alex Skolnick (Testament, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) on guitar; Paul Frazier (David Byrne, Niles Rogers) on bass, backing vocals; and Gene Lake (Marcus Miller, Nile Rogers & Chic) on drums.
