Last Chapter of Dreaming (MoonJune Records, 2013)

Last Chapter of Dreaming is the latest album by genre-defying American band Marbin. The group’s eclectic sound revolves around the saxophone melodies of two young musicians, saxophonist Danny Markovitch and guitarist Dani Rabin. Markovitch’s style is influenced by Eastern European and classical music, while Rabin’s guitar technique ranges from King Crimson-style progressive rock styling to blues and unexpected rockabilly.

Dani Rabin and Danny Markovitch are supported by Justyn Lawrence on drums and Jae Gentile on bass. The band invited an impressive list of musicians to provide rhythmic support: Paul Wertico on drums; Steve Rodby on bass; Jamey Haddad on percussion; and Zohar Fresco on percussion.

Although Marbin has been described as a jazz fusion band, it’s not exactly true. There is a strong jazz current, but there are also melodic world music elements, blues, some prog rock and a retro vibe with 1950s-60s rock and roll and rockabilly.

Marbin is a hard working band that has performed over 450 concerts in the past two years. Their heterogeneous album Last Chapter of Dreaming will appeal to fans of saxophone-oriented progressive jazz and world music.
