Yuval Ron – “Somewhere in this Universe, Someone Hits a Drum”

Yuval Ron Somewhere in this Universe, Someone Hits a Drum

Yuval Ron

Somewhere in this Universe, Somebody Hits Drum is guitarist Yuval Ron’s latest album, released in Oct 2019, through his own label Wrong Notes Music.

The band includes: Yuval Ron, on electric guitar, and vocals; Matt Paull, on  keyboards; Roberto Badoglio, on bass; and Marco Minnemann, on drums. The theme of the album encapsulates, “taking off on a mission, to explore the vast musical universe”, and it was over three years in the making. Additional vocals on “The Discovery of Phoebe”, by Dorin Mandelbaum. “The Discovery of Phoebe”, is dedicated to the memory of Allan Holdsworth.

The album artwork was design and created by Nicolas Uris. The album cover astronaut image was created by Kharmazero.

“Somewhere in this Universe, Somebody Hits Drum”, opens with Yuval Ron singing to pre-space launch keys and Marco Minnemann’s drum prep. The bass and guitar play back-up on the opening, but soon join in after the warm up. Some great riffing ensues and lifts the sound, along with cooler synthesizers. Marco Minnemann’s drumming at the song’s end is worth the price of admission.

“Gravitational Lensing”, is full of more Larry Fast like keyboards, percussion, drums, bass and lead electric guitar. That familiar refrain from Gustav Holst’s “Mars”, leaps to the front of the sound as keyboards, bass and electric guitar build the cadence.

“Kuiper Belt”, is darker than the last tracks. Bigger, bolder drums pound from Minnemann, as the keyboards and the lead electric guitar trace pathways to the stars.

I related well to “WiFi in Emerald City”, being a citizen of the Emerald City – Seattle. The song opens with keys similar to “Hear Comes the Rain”, from the Eurythmics. However, Rush-like lead electric guitar takes over the stage as Minnemann’s drum and Roberto Badoglio’s bass join in.

“The Discovery of Phoebe”, is a slow lead electric guitar solo, with bass and keyboards. Excellent.

“I Believe in Astronauts”, is full of Vangelis-like synths and awesome drumming by Minnemann at is opening. Then what sounds like the “Star Trek Theme”, before more synthesizers and space drifting.

Somewhere in this Universe, Somebody Hits Drum, is a refreshingly new voyage beyond the atmosphere with space rock. It is a very cool album for your headphones. Please indulge Yuval Ron and his musical companions with a listen to this intergalactic musical voyage.
