When It All Comes to Pass

KDB3 – When It All Comes to Pass (One Three in One Records, 2020)

‘When It All Comes to Pass’ is the fourth album from progressive rock act KDB3. The band is in reality the project of multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer Doug Bowers.  The sound of KDB3 is rich in keyboards, featuring layers of synths and majestic Mellotron supported by powerful drums and bass. KDB3 alternates between electric guitar solos and spacey synths, delivering satisfying progressive rock with symphonic and space rock elements.

When It All Comes to Pass contains only two long suites. The first piece is the instrumental “Sequences Fairy Tales,” featuring lots of keyboards, ranging from piano and electric organ to synths.  The final part of the suite incorporates Deep Purple-style hard rock that is less interesting to me.

Composition 2 is much longer (30:25) divided into several parts. It begins with great keyboard work and less interesting hard rock riffs. However, it continues on with a much more attractive vocal section title “The Word” with acoustic guitars and delicious Mellotron.  From there, it’s back to tedious hard rock on the song “The Sanctified.” Calm returns with the brief keyboard and vocals piece “The Reiteration.”

The next part of the suite is the quirky “It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time” with a merry-go-round feel. Next is “The Veil,” another synth-fueled song with hard rock guitars and fine electric guitar solo. The suite concludes with “If Not for Grace.” It features piano and vocals backed by symphonic keyboards and bass.

Lineup: Doug Bowers on keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drum programming and vocals. Guests: Brian Workman on electric guitar solos; Frank Williams on acoustic guitar; John Eargle on lead guitar and effects; and Chuck Tidwell on electric guitar solos.

  1. What a great symphonic prog song. It lifts you above the ground and brings pictures of life and music. GREAT ONE !
The ONLY thing is the piano line ( must be programmed ) starting at 04:02 that is kinda limping and stumble at 04:23.
Well…my point of view…. yours could be different.
