Drifting in Silence – "Timeless" album cover

Drifting in Silence – “Timeless”

Derrick Stembridge has created and released a timeless classic, similar to the sound of one of my favorite bands, NoSound. Drifting in Silence is the name of Derrick’s band, and the new album he released on May 26, of this year, is Timeless.

As Derrick describes it, “Timeless: without beginning or end; eternal. Derrick Stembridge invites listeners on a mesmerizing sonic journey with the new ambient album, Timeless. This unique experience is a tribute to fortitude, resilience, and adoration, reminding us that tranquility can be found even in moments of quiet solitude”. Timeless takes the listener, on an “awe-inspiring journey through an expansive realm of electronic vibrations, fluctuating between introspection and personal development”.

Drifting In Silence is made up of multi-instrumentalist and composer Derrick Stembridge. He has created some of the most hypnotic and mystical keyboard and synth music I have heard since NoSound. It is amazing and seamless, from beginning to end.

“Clocks”, brings back memories of NoSound’s beautiful rhythms and musical motions and emotions from the opening of this album. I hear a little of “Kites’ and my favorite, “From Silence to Noise”. A wonderful, over 5 minute journey back to Vangelis-like music you remember from Blade Runner. Simply amazing.

“I Wish You Were Here”, is much darker and foreboding, with a feeling of limitlessness. An over 7 minute journey into space; or I’d prefer deep water diving, off Bora Bora or the Great Barrier Reef. This is not the Pink Floyd cover you were expecting.

“IV XV MMXXII”, is an over 8 minute, soft, quiet, escape into the open, or nothingness of space. A dreamscape of a song, which is completely relaxing and full of ambient stillness.

“As You Drift Away”, took me back to Blade Runner again. It is over 7 minutes of lightning strike keyboard highs, mixed well with ocean like waves of synths. Just beautiful and relaxing.

“Timeless”, does sound like a Blade Runner, ride through the desert, or some faraway future metropolis. An absolutely wonderful closer. Sit back and enjoy over 8 minutes of ambient keyboard and synth orchestration, preferably on your headphones or ear buds. Movie soundtrack level. Excellent! No wonder he named the album Timeless.

Track List:

  1. Clocks – 5:51
  2. I Wish You Were Here – 7:26
  3. IV XV MMXXII – 8:14
  4. As You Drift Away – 7:32
  5. Timeless – 8:36

On Timeless, you do have the sensation of movement or drifting through regions of light, shadow, and of course time. Time does lose its value when your dreams take you over the edge to some place you have seen, or may have dreamed up with your imagination. That’s it! An album to inspire your imagination and dream of worlds away; or return, anew, to destinations from your memories of the past, that delight. This is an amazing album, which everyone should hear at least once. I know I’m going back for more, and digging into the discography to discover more treasures from Drifting in Silence.
